Manning taking a pay cut
DENVER, CO (TheSpread) – In order to make another run at a Super Bowl, Peyton Manning has elected to take a pay cut in order to help the Denver Broncos improve their roster.
According to ESPN, Manning has agreed on a new contract that will see him take a $4 million pay cut in order to open up more cap space for the Broncos. Manning was scheduled to make $19 million in base salary this upcoming season, but will now make $15 million. Manning does have incentives that could see him make that $4 million back if the team wins the Super Bowl.
According to the latest oddsmakers, the Denver Broncos are currently listed with 12/1 odds to win Super Bowl 50 in 2016. The Seattle Seahawks are the current favorite with 11/2 odds while the New England Patriots have 6/1 odds.
Manning has been with the Broncos for the last three seasons, playing in all 16 games of all three seasons. He has thrown for over 4,500 yards in all three seasons and had at least 37 touchdown passes in each season. In 2014, Denver went 12-4, winning the AFC West. The Broncos were then out of the playoffs after a loss to the Colts in which Manning played with a quad injury that limited his mobility and throwing power.
