Packers release A.J. Hawk
GREEN BAY, WI (TheSpread) – The Green Bay Packers severed ties with longtime linebacker A.J. Hawk on Wednesday.
Hawk was the second release in a week for the Packers, who also cut ties with Brad Jones. Hawk had spent all nine seasons of his NFL career with Green Bay. He appeared in all 16 games last season, racking up a total of 90 tackles. He had over 100 tackles in the previous two seasons. He also had ½ a sack in 2014, which was tied for a career-low.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Green Bay Packers currently have 7/1 odds to win Super Bowl 50 in 2016. The Seattle Seahawks are the favorite with 11/2 odds, while the New England Patriots have 6/1 odds.
The Packers’ decision to cut ties with Hawk opens up $3.5 million in salary-cap space. The release of Jones gave another $3.75 million to Green Bay. The Packers are coming off a 12-4 season in 2014 where they won the NFC North title and came up just shy of winning the NFC Championship, losing to the Seahawks in OT.
