49ers, Harbuagh not a mutual parting?
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (TheSpread) – Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers had a “mutual breakup” at the end of this past NFL season, but now Harbaugh is saying the breakup wasn’t quite so mutual.
The former 49ers head coach appeared on “The TK Show” earlier this week and gave his side of what happened with the 49ers in the bizarre separation after four seasons where he went 44-19 with a Super Bowl appearance and three NFC Championship appearances.
“I was told I wouldn’t be the coach anymore,” Harbaugh said. “And then … you can call it ‘mutual,’ I mean, I wasn’t going to put the 49ers in the position to have a coach that they didn’t want anymore. But that’s the truth of it. I didn’t leave the 49ers. I felt like the 49er hierarchy left me.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the San Francisco 49ers currently have 16/1 odds to win Super Bowl 50 next season. The Seattle Seahawks are favored with 11/2 odds while the New England Patriots have 7/1 odds.
The 49ers dealt with plenty of injuries and suspensions last season, going 8-8. It was believed that Harbaugh had worn out his welcome during the season, forcing the partnership with the team ending. San Francisco has since hired Jim Tomsula to be the new head coach. He coached the defensive line last season for San Francisco. Harbaugh has since taken a job with his alma mater, the University of Michigan.
