Owner still believes in Manziel
CLEVELAND, OH (The Spread) – On Wednesday Browns owner Jimmy Haslam threw support behind his quarterback Johnny Manziel, who recently sought treatment at a rehab center.
Haslam said he “absolutely” believes Manziel can still be a NFL starter.
“I ask that question a lot to our football people — as recently as today,” Haslam said. “‘Do we still think he can be a starter in the NFL?’ And the answer is consistently yes.”
There have been reports in recent weeks that Manziel lacked commitment and preparation to football during his rookie year in Cleveland. One player even called Manziel a “100 percent joke” and team security reportedly found the quarterback “drunk off his ass” the morning before the Browns’ season finale.
“Let me say this, I don’t know how much of Johnny’s personal life was known by everybody then and I don’t know how much is known now,” Haslam said. “… It’s way too early to give up on Johnny.”
Apparently oddsmakers have already given up on Johnny. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Browns are 66/1 long shots to win the 2016 Super Bowl and are 33/1 to win the AFC Conference Championship next season.
