Raiders hire Norton as DC
OAKLAND, CA (TheSpread) – Jack Del Rio is pairing up with a former on-the-field teammate in Oakland, hiring Ken Norton Jr. to be his Defensive Coordinator for the Raiders.
The move was announced on Friday. Del Rio and Norton played together for three years while with the Dallas Cowboys. Norton has spent the last five seasons as the linebackers coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
“We’ve always talked about being able to put my time and energy and knowledge together as well as his and really come together and make a winner,” Norton said during a conference call Friday. “I have certain ideas that I have that I know that work. He has certain ideas that he has that he knows that work. We’re going to bring them together and obviously make them the Raider way.”
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Oakland Raiders have 150/1 odds to win Super Bowl 50 next season. The Seattle Seahawks are the favorite to win it all, as they have 11/2 odds, while the New England Patriots have 6/1 odds.
The Raiders are coming off a 3-13 season in 2014 where they fired coach Dennis Allen midseason. Del Rio was the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from the 2003 season to the middle of 2011. He went 68-71 in his time in Jacksonville, making the playoffs on two occasions. Del Rio has been with the Denver Broncos since 2012 as defensive coordinator and he spent time as interim coach in 2013 while John Fox dealt with medical issues.
