Giants beat Pats in XLVI, Cover Spread

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (The Spread) - Once again, the New York Giants have gotten the best of the New England Patriots.

For the second time in less than five years, the Giants defeated the Patriots in the Super Bowl. This time around, New York produced a 21-17 victory in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday night as Eli Manning collected his second MVP trophy in as many tries. Manning was 30-of-40 for 296 yards and one touchdown while leading the Giants from behind once again this season.

The Giants opened as a 3.5-point underdog on Championship Sunday but the line was immediately bet down to 3 and even 2.5 at some sports books. At kickoff the spread went off at 3 while the total was 53, falling from its opening number of 55.5. Thus, the combined score of 38 fell well under the total.

Hakeem Nicks finished with 10 catches for 109 yards while Mario Manning caught five passes for 73 yards and made a tremendous 38-yard catch on the Giants game-winning touchdown drive. As for the Patriots, Tom Brady threw for 276 yards on 27-of-41 passes with two touchdowns and one interception. Aaron Hernandez caught eight passes for 67 yards and one touchdown in the defeat.

This was the third time that the Giants beat the Patriots in as many tries. They defeated New England 17-14 in the 2008 Super Bowl and then won as 9-point underdogs in Week 9 of the regular season versus the Patriots in Foxboro.
