2013 Super Bowl Opening Odds

2013 super bowl odds packers giants saints patriots

(The Spread) – The Giants’ victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI isn’t even 24 hours old yet but oddsmamkers have already released the odds to win for the 2013 Super Bowl.

The now defending 2012 Super Bowl champion Giants aren’t favored to win the 2013 NFL championship. While New York is 10/1 the Green Bay Packers have the best odds at 5/1, the New Orleans Saints are 6/1 and the Patriots are 7/1. The Packers and Patriots are just two of the teams that the Giants beat in 2012 to be crowned Super Bowl champions, while the Saints lost to the 49ers in the Divisional round of the playoffs. (San Francisco is 20/1 to win the 2013 Super Bowl.)

The team that the Patriots defeated in the AFC Championship Game this year, the Baltimore Ravens, are 12/1 to win the Super Bowl next season, as are the Houston Texans (who lost to the Ravens in the 2012 Divisional Round). The Pittsburgh Steelers, who were upset by the Denver Broncos in the Wildcard Round last year, are also 12/1 and so are the Philadelphia Eagles, who failed to make the playoffs despite spending all kinds of money in free agency last offseason.

One of the other teams that the Giants beat along the way to greatest was the Atlanta Falcons, who are 20/1 long shots to win the 2013 Super Bowl. They have the same odds as the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions (who lost to the Saints in the Wildcard Round this past season), New York Jets and the aforementioned San Francisco 49ers.

Some teams to keep an eye on next season are the Carolina Panthers (50/1), Cincinnati Bengals (40/1) and San Diego Chargers (15/1). Thanks to 2011 Rookie of the Year Cam Newton, the Panthers are already contenders again one year after having the No. 1 overall pick, while the Bengals made the playoffs this past season despite starting rookies at quarterback (Andy Dalton) and receiver (A.J. Green). Meanwhile, the Chargers failed to make the postseason this past year but are always a threat thanks to Philip Rivers and a usually explosive Norv Turner passing game.
