Super Bowl XLVI Free Pick
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (The Spread) – With kickoff for Super Bowl XLVI just a mere hours away, here’s our free pick prediction for the championship tilt between the Giants and the Patriots. NFL Odds: Oddsmakers currently list the Patriots as 3-point favorites over the Giants for tonight’s Super Bowl, while the over/under total is now 53 points. New York enters play with a 12-7 overall record this season while New England is 15-3. Line Movement: The Patriots opened as a 3.5-point favorite at most sports books but the line has been bet down to 3 or even 2.5 at some places. The total, meanwhile, opened at 55.5 and has dropped to 53 at most places, although some books have bumped the over/under back up to 54 or 54.5.
Public Betting: Of the wagers on today’s game, 61% of NFL public bettors currently favor the Giants. This information is subject to change leading up to kickoff, however, so make sure you click on the link provided for the most up-to-date NFL public betting numbers. NFL Playoff Free Pick: Take the under. We all know what the Giants’ defense is capable of. They have four defensive ends (Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Dave Tollefson) that can line up at one time in passing situations and have tormented Tom Brady in the past. The last time these two teams met, New England center Dan Connolly had a rough game and if New York has the ability to bring pressure from the entire of its defensive line, Brady could have trouble getting into a rhythm yet again. On the other side, the Giants’ passing game is a major mismatch against the Patriots’ rather inexperienced secondary. But New England’s defense has steadily improved each week since about the midway point in the regular season so I expect the Pats to play well on that side of the ball again. The Giants had a fair share of trouble moving the ball on the ground during the regular season and the Patriots’ strength defensively is their run defense. Thus, if the Pats can drop extra men into coverage and force New York to keep the ball on the ground, it could eat up a lot of clock. According to latest NFL trends, there have been seven Super Bowl totals listed in the 50s since 1994 and of those seven, five of them went under the total. Look for the Giants and Patriots to make it six of eight. SUPER BOWL XLVI PREDICTION: GIANTS/PATRIOTS UNDER 53 Want More From TheSpread.com?
