Public Bettors Still Backing Chiefs
Andy Reid is the sentimental favorite heading into Super Bowl 54 and the Chiefs have the edge at quarterback for tonight’s matchup with the 49ers. Both of these things factor into public bettors backing Kansas City over San Francisco tonight in Miami.

Public Betting Trends
According to our NFL Football Public Betting Chart page, the Chiefs are receiving 57% of the betting tickets from online sportsbooks. That number has stayed relatively steady throughout the course of the week and so has the point spread for this game. After opening as a 1-point favorite, the Chiefs have essentially been a 1-point favorite over the past two weeks, although some sports books have moved the number to 1.5.
There’s been more movement with the total. After hitting the board at 53.5, the over/under climbed to 54.5 before dropping back down slightly to 54. Bettors are hammering the over, with 75% of the betting tickets online coming on the over. That’s not surprising, as public bettors love to root for points in Super Bowls.
The Chiefs have been great to their backers of late, covering the 7 points versus the Titans in the AFC Championship Game and the 10-point spread versus the Texans in the Divisional round despite trailing 24-0 early in the second quarter. Kanas City also finished the regular season by covering the spread in seven of its last 10 games with one push (Week 17 versus the Chargers).
That said, the 49ers have been no strangers to helping bettors cash tickets either. They covered the number in back-to-back playoff games against the Vikings (-7.5) and Packers (-7.5). They weren’t as strong as the Chiefs down the stretch, however, failing to cover the spread in two of their last three games, including once as a 10.5-point home favorite versus the Falcons (a game in which the Niners lost outright, 29-22).
