Under 4-1 in Pats’ last 5 Super Bowls
GLENDALE, AZ (The Spread) – If you’re looking to bet the over in Super Bowl XLIX, here’s one trend that may give you some hesitation.
The under is 4-1 in the Patriots’ last five Super Bowl appearances, including in 2012 when they lost to the Giants 21-17. The total in that game was set at 53 but fell well under as New York’s defensive line once again gave Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offense all kinds of trouble.
The under also hit in the New York-New England matchup in 2008 when the Giants beat the Pats 17-14 and the combined score fell well under the total of 55. IN 2005, the Patriots beat the Eagles 24-21 when the total was 46.5, while the under 53 hit in the 2002 Super Bowl between New England and St. Louis when the Rams lost 20-17. The only over to cash in during the Pats’ last five Super Bowl appearances was in 2004 when New England beat Carolina 32-29 with the number sitting at 37.5.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the under for Super Bowl XLIX is currently sitting at 47.5, down a half point from where it opened. The Patriots are also 1-point favorites over the Seahawks after the line was a pick’em early last week.
The under is also 7-3 in the Patriots’ last 10 games on grass and 11-5 in the Seahawks’ last 16 games versus a team with a winning record. In last year’s Super Bowl, the over of 47.5 hit when Seattle crushed Denver 43-8 in East Rutherford, NJ.
