Online sports betting sites like Bodog.com and Sportsbook.com offer bettors the chance to bet money and get paid odds on whether they can predict how an event will end in advance. These types of wagers are called” futures”. A future is a wager that can be placed at anytime in advance of a sporting event, such as the 2009 NFL Super Bowl XLIII.
These wagers are popular with bettors because they pay odds and you can get a higher payout then you would on say betting the side or the over/under. 1/16 +600: After playoff wins against Atlanta and Carolina, oddsmakers recognize the Cardinals are a serious threat to make it to Super Bowl 43 and drop them down to 6/1.
Super Bowl Week +200: The best you can find anywhere right now is 2/1, as most odds are less than that.
If the Arizona Cardinals are able to upset the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII, anyone who made a future wager on the Cardinals at any point before the playoffs will see an incredible return on their wager.
Luckily for oddsmakers, Arizona’s surprising run went largely unnoticed and most were able to adjust accordingly as the money started to trickle in so their exposure will be greatly minimized.
