2014 Pro Bowl Point Spread
HONOLULU, HI (The Spread) – Tonight Team Rice will take on Team Sanders in the 2014 NFL Pro Bowl at 7:30PM ET and Rice's team has been installed as a small favorite.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Team Rice is a 1.5-point favorite over Team Sanders, while the over/under total is currently sitting at 90 points. The two teams in last year's Pro Bowl combined to score 100 points and the year before that the Pro Bowl hit the 97-point mark as the NFC racked up 62 points in what essentially was a flag football game.
In effort to attract more viewers and make the game more entertaining, the NFL decided to allow the Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders conduct a fantasy draft to assemble their teams. At one point Sanders even boasted that he would suit up for his team, but the league nixed that idea right away.
Some of the standouts for Team Rice are quarterback Drew Brees, running back LeSean McCoy and receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Josh Gordon, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. The tight ends are Jimmy Graham and Tony Gonzalez, the latter of which will retire following the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, Team Rice has Robert Quinn, Robert Mathis, Joe Haden and Jairus Byrd, who will become a free agent following the 2013-14 NFL season. Nobody had more sacks this season than Quinn and Mathis, who combined for 38.5 quarterback takedowns this season.
Lining up for Team Sanders will be Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Jamaal Charles and A.J. Green, as well as Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Greg Hardy and Mario Williams. J.J. Watt was selected as one of the captains for Team Sanders, along with Charles, who finished third behind McCoy and Matt Forte in rushing yards this season.
Also on the defensive side of the ball is Ndamukong Suh, Terrell Suggs, Paul Posluszny and Luke Kuechly, the defensive rookie of the year from a season ago. In Sanders' secondary are standouts Patrick Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Eric Berry and Eric Weddle.
