Patriots now 1-point favorite in Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – Even though they’re steeped in “Deflategate,” the line for Super Bowl XLIX has moved in favor of the Patriots at some Las Vegas sports books.
The Patriots opened as 1-point underdogs versus the Seahawks at most sports books but within minutes of their 45-7 victory over the Colts in the AFC title game, the Super Bowl line moved to a pick’em. But at Vegas sports books like MGM Mirage and Wynn LV, New England is now a 1-point favorite for the Super Bowl. The total, meanwhile, is sitting between 48 and 48.5 at most online and Vegas books.
A report emerged on Tuesday night that 11-of-12 Patriots game balls were inflated significantly less than the league requires during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game win over the Colts. This has led some to believe that the controversy will be a major distraction for New England leading up to Super Bowl XLIX, but clearly bettors are still finding their way to the betting window to lay their money on the Pats.
The Patriots are 0-4 against the spread in their last four Super Bowl games and 4-11 against the number in their last 15 playoff games. They’re also just 1-4 ATS in their last five games after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game.
