Tom Brady favored to win XLIX MVP
GLENDALE, AZ (The Spread) – Will Tom Brady win his third MVP trophy when the Patriots battle the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX on February 1?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Brady is favored to win the MVP award at 3/2 odds. Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson both have the next-best odds to win at 15/4, respectively, while Rob Gronkowski is 9/1. LeGarrette Blount, meanwhile, is 12/1 to win the MVP of Super Bowl XLIX and Richard Sherman is 25/1.
Some of the long shots to win the award are Doug Baldwin, Kam Chancellor, Julian Edelman and Darrelle Revis at 33/1, respectively. Earl Thomas is also 40/1 to win the MVP while Bobby Wagner is 50/1 and four players – Brandon LaFell, Jermaine Kearse, Byron Maxwell and K.J. Wright – are all 66/1, respectively. Shane Vereen is also 75/1.
The deep long shots are Danny Amendola, Patrick Chung, Jamie Collins, Don’t’a Hightower, Devin McCourty, Rob Ninkovich and Luke Wilson, who are all 100/1, respectively, while Stephen Gostkowski, Steven Hauschka and Malcolm Smith, last year’s Super Bowl MVP, are all 150/1, respectively. The rest of the field (all players that don’t have odds) is 25/1.
Quarterbacks have won the MVP 26 times in Super Bowl history while running backs have won seven times and receivers have won six times. Linebackers have won three times, defensive ends and safeties after won twice apiece, while cornerback, defensive tackle and kick returner/punt returner have all won once apiece.
