The Saints put on an offensive show against the Arizona Cardinals in their Divisional Round matchup, scoring 45 points in a 45-14 blowout. New Orleans covered as 7-point favorites, while the combined score went over the posted total of 57 points.
The Saints opened as 4.5-point favorites over the Vikings, according to oddsmakers from the Las Vegas MGM Mirage. But the line has since dropped to New Orleans –3.5. The over/under total for Sunday’s game has been set at 52 points.
Out of the 17,832 wagers on the NFC title game, 55% of public bettors favor the Vikings +3.5. One reason for that is because the Vikings have an outstanding 13-4 straight up record this year, and a 10-6-1 record against the number. The Saints have an equally impressive straight up record at 14-3, but are a very average 9-8 against the spread. Both teams have an identical an over/under record of 8-9.
Both of these teams have explosive offenses. Led by quarterback Drew Brees and a plethora of offensive weapons, New Orleans led the league this year in total yardage per game at 403.8, as well as points per contest at 31.9. Thanks to the combination of Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson, Minnesota has an equally impressive total yardage number at 379.6 YPG, and has averaged 29.4 points per contest.
Kickoff for the 2010 NFC Championship Game has been set for 6:40 at the Louisiana Superdome. With the game being played indoors, weather will obviously not be a factor.
