AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley says he didn’t submit his name to the NFL Collegiate Advisory Committee to evaluate his draft status.
Asked if that meant he had made up his mind, Fairley said Wednesday that “I haven’t even thought about it.”
The junior All-American and Lombardi Award winner is projected as a potential top 10 NFL draft pick if he skips his senior season. Fairley says the pluses of returning for his senior season would include “staying around these guys another year.”
Fairley and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Cam Newton are both juniors who could be high draft picks. They’ve led the top-ranked Tigers to the BCS national championship game against Oregon.
They’ll have until five days after the Jan. 10 game to declare for the draft.
