OXFORD, Ohio (AP) -Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Haywood has been hired as Miami University's next football coach.
He replaces Shane Montgomery, who resigned last month following a 2-10 season. The RedHawks went 17-31 during his four seasons.
Haywood has been offensive coordinator at Notre Dame the last four seasons. His hiring Tuesday made him the sixth black coach among the 119 Football Bowl Subdivision schools. He also joins a university known as the Cradle of Coaches.
Haywood is with the Irish in Honolulu, where Notre Dame plays Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl on Wednesday night.
