FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) – Surprising Lenoir-Rhyne and powerhouse Northwest Missouri State are set to meet in the Division II national championship game.
Lenoir-Rhyne is in the playoffs for only the second time while unbeaten Northwest Missouri is making its record eighth trip to the title game.
Onetime third-team quarterback Josh Justice has carried Lenoir-Rhyne through the playoffs after injuries to the top two. He runs a spread flexbone offense that didn’t attempt a pass in the semifinals.
Justice says this playoff run means ”everyone nationwide is hearing our name and putting little ole Lenoir-Rhyne University of Hickory, N.C., on the map.”
Northwest Missouri State is gunning for its fourth Division II title and trying to become only the fifth team to go 15-0. The Bearcats also did it in 1998.
