MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Memphis has reached agreement on a contract extension with football coach Justin Fuente, who just led the Tigers to a share of their first conference title since 1971.
The school announced the agreement Thursday in a university release. Details of the deal were not released.
Fuente owns a 16-20 record in three seasons at Memphis, including a 9-3 mark this year. The Tigers had gone 5-31 in the three years before the former TCU offensive coordinator’s arrival.
Memphis shared the American Athletic Conference title with Cincinnati and UCF. The Tigers hadn’t won a league championship of any sort since topping the Missouri Valley Conference in 1971.
The Tigers will make their first bowl appearance since 2008 on Monday when they face BYU (8-4) in the Miami Beach Bowl.
