HOUSTON (AP) – Henry Frazier has resigned as football coach at Prairie View A&M after reviving a program that had seen record losing streaks in the 1990s.
Prairie View athletic director Fred Washington tells KRIV-TV of Houston that Frazier cited personal reasons for his resignation. Washington said Panthers defensive coordinator Heishma Northern will succeed Frazier.
In 2004, Frazier took over a team had won 21 of 216 games since 1980 and lost a record 80 in a row from 1989-98. He took the Panthers to their first winning season in 2007 and their first Southwestern Athletic Conference title in 45 years in 2009, earning the SWAC coach of the year award.
Prairie View was 7-4 and 6-3 in the SWAC in 2010.
