FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) -Abilene Christian senior running back Bernard Scott won the Harlon Hill Trophy on Friday night as the nation’s top NCAA Division II player.
Scott, who finished runner-up in the voting a year ago to Danny Woodhead, was a landslide winner this year, getting the third-highest vote total in the 23-year history of the trophy.
He had 253 points in the balloting of Division II sports information directors nationwide, 168 points more than North Alabama quarterback A.J. Milwee and Central Washington quarterback Mike Reilly.
Reilly and Milwee shared second place.
“After being here last year and finishing second, I was confident but I also knew there were two really great quarterbacks up there with me tonight,” Scott said. “I’m just thankful that the coaches and my teammates put me in the right position to make plays. They deserve the credit.
“Being from Division II, I guess this proves it doesn’t matter how you get to your dreams as long as you just keep working for them.”

Reilly, a senior, passed for 3,706 yards and 37 touchdowns to lead Central Washington to a 10-2 record and a playoff appearance. He threw at least one touchdown pass in 46 consecutive games.
Milwee, a University of Alabama transfer, led North Alabama to the national semifinals with 3,313 yards passing, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Harlon Hill was a former North Alabama player who starred for the Chicago Bears.
