KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Tennessee is planning to wear its ”Smokey grey” alternate uniforms for the Music City Bowl as a way to honor victims of the Gatlinburg wildfires.
The school announced via Twitter on Friday that ”we are wearing our hearts on our sleeves” by sporting the alternate uniforms against No. 24 Nebraska on Dec. 30 at Nashville, Tennessee.
These uniforms are in a color that the school and Nike describe as ”Smokey grey.” The helmets accompanying these uniforms include a silhouette of the Smoky Mountains.
Gatlinburg reopened to the public Friday morning after wildfires last week caused 14 deaths and damaged about 2,500 buildings.
Tennessee has worn these alternate uniforms for one home game each of the last two seasons.
