KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer will receive a raise and one-year contract extension through 2012.
The amount of the raise most likely won't be worked out until after the Vols play in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1, the university said.
Fulmer currently makes $2.05 million annually, with potential for bonuses for reaching or winning championship games and certain bowls. Through his career, Fulmer has received about $1 million in bonuses for remaining at Tennessee.
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said in a letter e-mailed to fans and ticket holders Thursday that Fulmer ``is our coach and will be our coach for the foreseeable future.''
``Phillip and his staff did an exceptional job keeping our team focused and working to improve during the latter half of the season as they won the divisional championship,'' Hamilton wrote.
Tennessee (9-4) will face Wisconsin (9-3) in the Outback Bowl, where the Vols lost 20-10 to Penn State last season.
Fulmer faced much criticism from fans after the Vols lost to California, Florida and Alabama in the first half of the 2007 season by a combined 77 points. The Vols won the Southeastern Conference East Division but lost to LSU in the SEC championship game.
Fulmer said before the end of the season he wants to win another national championship at Tennessee before retiring. He and his wife, Vicky, in August announced a $1 million donation to the school for scholarships and programs.
