SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Big 12 power Oklahoma will face Big East champion Connecticut in the Fiesta Bowl.
The ninth-ranked Sooners wrapped up their seventh Big 12 title by rallying from a 17-point deficit to beat Nebraska 23-20 on Saturday.
The Sooners, seventh in the BCS standings, don’t have many fond memories of the Fiesta Bowl. Oklahoma lost to trick-playing Boise State in 2007 and was overrun by West Virginia the following year.
No. 25 UConn (8-4), 26th in the BCS standings, shared the Big East title with West Virginia and Pittsburgh, earning the automatic BCS nod through a tiebreaker. The Huskies closed out their regular rseason by beating South Florida 19-16 Saturday night.
The game is New Year’s Day at University of Phoenix Stadium.
