SEATTLE (AP) -The lowly Washington State Cougars are on their third quarterback through two quarters of the Apple Cup. And he’s the backup punter.
Starter Kevin Lopina left Saturday’s game against Washington after he was intercepted on his seventh pass. He appeared to hurt his right shoulder when Washington’s Darrion Jones hit him.
Marshall Lobbestael entered. Nine passes later, he tried to run over Washington’s Jason Wells on a downfield scramble. He stumbled trying to get up and was helped to the bench by two trainers.
Lobbestael re-entered, then was driven hard into the turf by UW’s Cameron Elisara. He landed violently on his shoulder and was eventually carted off the field.
With freshman Jeff Tuel’s right knee still sprained, redshirt sophomore Dan Wagner finished the half.
The Cougars trailed 13-0 at intermission.
