A bowl bid will be on the line when Virginia and Virginia Tech meet Friday night.
The Cavaliers (5-6, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) have lost 10 straight, and 14 of 15, against the Hokies. They’ve also lost nine consecutive road games, and ending those droughts would land them in a bowl game for the first time since after the 2011 season.
Virginia Tech (5-6, 2-5) is reeling. Like the Cavaliers, the Hokies have lost four of their last five, and their most recent – a 6-3 double overtime loss at Wake Forest – was the worst of them all.
Coach Frank Beamer’s team has played in a bowl game after each of the past 21 seasons, the second-longest run in the country behind Florida State’s 32.
