MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -The Minnesota Gophers are trying to finish a rough season strong.
After nine straight losses, Minnesota finally got one two weeks ago in a rally at Illinois. The Gophers host rival Iowa on Saturday, looking for their first win in the border-state series between these schools since 2006.
In fact, the current group of seniors hasn’t won any of their trophy games over their four years in maroon and gold.
The 24th-ranked Hawkeyes are coming off consecutive close losses that pushed them out of the Big Ten title chase. They can still play in a New Year’s Day bowl game, but this isn’t the kind of season they envisioned.
Iowa’s leading rusher Adam Robinson will miss another game because of a concussion. Freshman Marcus Coker will fill in again.
