MADISON, Wis. (AP) -Just being solid is a compliment to Wisconsin’s secondary.
Niles Brinkley, Antonio Fenelus, Aaron Henry and Jay Valai have made big strides for the fifth-ranked Badgers (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) since last year’s group struggled during a 10-3 season.
Their improvement under new secondary coach Chris Ash is a big reason why Wisconsin will play for at least a share of the conference title on Saturday against Northwestern (7-4, 3-4).
Ash says when he came to Madison he found a group eager to learn and listen, but not fundamentally sound. He calls them solid now.
Head coach Bret Bielema says he understands Ash can be hard on the players, but Henry agrees that solid is a compliment compared to where the shaky secondary was last season.
