SAN DIEGO (AP) -Chuck Long has been fired by San Diego State after going 9-27 in three seasons as football coach.
Long's firing was announced on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the Aztecs finished the worst season in school history with a surprising 42-21 win over UNLV. San Diego State finished 2-10.
Long had no head coaching experience when he was hired in December 2005. He was the Heisman Trophy runner-up to Bo Jackson in 1985. Long had two years remaining on his contract.
The Aztecs haven't been to a bowl game in 10 years.
