MILWAUKEE (AP) -Bret Bielema was at Camp Randall Stadium the last time Wisconsin won a Big Ten title, watching the Badgers’ offensive attack move at will against Iowa in 1999 as a member of the Hawkeyes staff.
Bielema, in his fifth year as head coach at Wisconsin (10-1, 6-1), sees similarities in his offense and the one from 1999. On Saturday, the fifth-ranked Badgers face Northwestern with a share of the conference title at stake.
The hand-picked successor to Barry Alvarez isn’t interested in talking about what a title – and BCS bowl – might mean for his program.
But Bielema says he and his players understand what’s on the line. This season, they’ve had wins over then-No. 1 Ohio State, at Iowa and drubbed Purdue, Indiana and Michigan by a combined score of 165-61.
