CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -Quarterback T.J. Yates has returned to the starting lineup for No. 25 North Carolina for the first time since breaking his left ankle in September.
Yates earned the starting job for Saturday’s game against rival North Carolina State. He started the first three games for the Tar Heels (7-3, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) before getting injured during a sack against Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels had turned to Cameron Sexton, who won four of six starts. But coach Butch Davis opened the competition in practice this week after Sexton’s shaky performance in last weekend’s loss at Maryland.
