WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -DeAngelo Branche’s 4-yard touchdown with 13:43 remaining held up as the game-winner for Norfolk State, which came back to defeat Winston-Salem 17-14 on Saturday.
Branche rushed for 181 yards and his game-winning score on 21 carries for the Spartans (5-7), who outgained the Rams (3-8) 357-196. Dennis Brown completed 16 of 26 passes for 130 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Nicolas Cooper rushed for 111 yards and one score on 11 carries for the Rams.
Alex Chandler opened the scoring with a 52-yard fumble return that put the Rams up 7-0 in the first. Justin Castellat’s 36-yard field goal pulled the Spartans within 7-3 at the half.
Brown hit Darryl Dickerson on an 11-yard score to give the Spartans the lead to start the third, but Copper broke off a 30-yard run to put the Rams ahead 14-10 going into the final quarter.
