FBC--T25-BORDER RIVALRY. Also listed on main Sports Digest.
LAWRENCE, Kan. - William Quantrill crossed into Kansas from Missouri and attacked at dawn. His raiders dragged men as old as 90 and boys as young as 14 from their homes and shot them in front of horrified wives and mothers. About 200 were killed and most of Lawrence was in flames. From this carnage, the seeds were sown for a college football rivalry that began only 28 years later. By Doug Tucker. AP Photo.
