LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Louisville coach Steve Kragthorpe said Monday he “absolutely” wants to remain as coach of the Cardinals and has no plans to step down amid speculation he could be fired.
Louisville (4-5, 1-4 Big East) snapped a nine-game conference losing streak with an ugly 10-9 win over Syracuse on Saturday. The Cardinals are 15-18 in three seasons under Kragthorpe.
He says he understands the frustration of fans but maintains that his team isn’t far away from competing for a conference title, saying the season would be very different if not for a couple of close losses early in the year.
The Cardinals play at South Florida on Saturday.
