SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) – Jyles Smith scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds on Thursday night and Savannah State beat Florida National 87-60.
Joshua Montgomery and Deven Williams scored 12 points each and Jeremiah Hill added 11 points for the Tigers (2-2). Smith had eight blocks.
The Conquistadors (5-5) led briefly in the first half, sparked by Yves Goedschalk, who had six assists and five rebounds, but the Tigers led 44-31 at the half and dominated the second half, out-scoring Florida National 43-29.
The tigers shot 48.3 percent from the floor and made 19 of 25 field goal attempts, while the Conquistadors shot just 38.5 percent.
Julian Johnson led the Conquistadors with 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and Jarvis Davis added 14. This season marks the first ever men’s basketball team for Florida National.
