AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -Auburn’s Gene Chizik continues to have plenty to say about quarterback Cam Newton’s performance against Georgia.
However, the coach said Sunday he plans to maintain his silence on the off-the-field issues facing the Heisman favorite.
Chizik says he is keeping “the same stance” – which has been no comment – on recruiting allegations that Newton’s father sought money from Mississippi State during the recruiting process. Newton turned in another strong performance on Saturday.
The junior is giving Auburn fans plenty to cheer about on the field – a possible Heisman winner, a spot in the SEC championship game and a shot at the national title. But underneath their exuberance lies a bit of anxiety, a concern that NCAA violations could bring the celebration to an abrupt end.
