UTICA, N.Y. (AP) -Two upstate New York football teams combined for 142 points in quadruple overtime, setting the NCAA all-division record for most points.
The 38-year-old record was broken for the second time in two weeks when Hartwick College edged Utica College 72-70 Saturday. The game featured a combined 20 touchdowns, 1,042 yards of total offense and 52 first downs, according to the Utica College sports information office.
Weber State defeated Portland State 73-68 the previous week.
The 136-point record was set in 1968 when North Park beat North Central 104-32 in a Division III game.
The victory sent Hartwick (8-2), the Empire 8 Conference champions, into the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Utica’s 70 points broke a national record for most points scored by a losing team, eclipsing the 66 scored by Western, N.M., in a double overtime loss to Fort Lewis in 2002.
Utica (3-7) had averaged 14 points.
