STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy says he’s not sure he would have hired himself to coach the Cowboys when he got the job in 2005.
Gundy has guided the Cowboys to four straight seasons with at least seven wins for the first time in school history. But he said Monday that he made a lot of mistakes early on.
Gundy says his most important lessons along the way were learning to be patient and resilient. He says maturity has made him a better coach but he hedged when asked if he’d hire himself now, choosing instead to say, “I don’t have to make that decision.”
Gundy’s 17th-ranked Cowboys (7-2, 4-1 Big 12) host Texas Tech (6-3, 3-2) on Saturday night.
