ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – The NCAA will announce Thursday whether Michigan will face additional penalties for five major rules violations related to exceeding practice and workout time.
Michigan announced in May that its self-imposed sanctions included probation for two years and reducing training time by 130 hours over two years, doubling the amount of time the Wolverines exceeded NCAA rules.
The school accepted responsibility for four of the allegations and reprimanded seven people, including coach Rick Rodriguez. But it challenged the NCAA allegation that the coach failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance with NCAA rules.
A person with knowledge of the NCAA’s report told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the charge directed at Rodriguez has been dropped. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one is permitted to comment on the case until NCAA announces its ruling.
