PHOENIX (AP) – This was supposed to be the year of the quarterback in the Pac-10.
Instead, it’s turned into the battle of the backups.
Four teams have lost their starting quarterbacks for at least one game this season and have had to turn to often untested backups.
Washington’s Jake Locker, the preseason pick as the Pac-10’s best quarterback, will miss at least one game with broken ribs. Arizona’s Nick Foles has missed two games with a right knee sprain, though he could be ready for Saturday’s game against Stanford.
They’re still in better shape than UCLA’s Kevin Prince and Cal’s Kevin Riley, who are done for the year with knee injuries.
