CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Top running back Damien Berry will not play for Miami against Maryland on Saturday, the latest blow for a reeling team that’s already bracing to be without quarterback Jacory Harris.
Miami coach Randy Shannon says Berry has been dealing with nagging injuries for the better part of a month. Harris will not start because of a concussion, and Miami has promoted fourth-stringer Stephen Morris to take his place.
Berry leads Miami with 690 rushing yards, which is more than the next six Hurricanes rushers combined. Lamar Miller (252) and Mike James (243) have been the primary backups this season.
Miami (5-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) needs a win to keep its fledgling chance of winning the league’s Coastal Division title alive.
