NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – Coach Bob Stoops says the BCS standings were in the back of his mind when he decided against a comeback try late during Saturday’s loss at Missouri.
Oklahoma was down nine points with less than 2 1/2 minutes remaining and had the ball on fourth down at their own 7-yard line. Stoops had his team punt rather than try to keep the drive going, and the Tigers won 36-27.
Oklahoma dropped from No. 1 in the BCS standings a week ago to No. 9. Stoops said Tuesday that giving up the ball deep in Sooners territory risked a more lopsided loss and more damage in the polls.
