PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (AP) – A New York police chief is cautioning against a rush to judgment until investigations into the shooting death of a college football player are complete.
Pleasantville police Chief Anthony Chiarlitti (Chahr-LIH’-tee) says it’s useless to speculate about what happened on Oct. 17, when two officers fired at a moving car and 20-year-old Danroy Henry was killed. Henry played football for Pace University.
A Pleasantville officer was hit by Henry’s car and required surgery. The police chief pledged his support unless it’s proven the officer did something wrong.
Chiarlitti also mentioned the leak of autopsy information that showed Henry was driving drunk when he was shot, which he said is unconfirmed.
The Westchester County district attorney is investigating. Henry’s parents have called for a federal investigation.
