Oregon is No. 1 in the polls, second in the BCS and on a roll unlike any other in its history.
Now comes what may be the toughest part of the season: a five-game gauntlet of tough teams, all vying to knock the Ducks off the path to their first national championship.
Oregon’s tough closing stretch starts Saturday against No. 24 Southern California, which has struggled defensively but has the offense to keep up with the Ducks. After that, Oregon faces Washington, mercurial Cal and No. 15 Arizona before closing out the season at rival Oregon State.
The Beavers should be extra ready for this year’s Civil War, too, after being denied their first trip to the Rose Bowl since 1965 by the Ducks last season.
