NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -Landry Jones never expected to playing for No. 25 Oklahoma so soon.
An injury to Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford has changed all that.
A nightmarish start to the season for the Sooners has provided a trial by fire for the team’s projected quarterback of the future, and coaches are praising Jones’ performance.
Quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel says no stage has been too big for Jones, who replaced the injured Bradford against BYU and when he got hurt again Saturday against Texas.
His time in the spotlight has been marked by highs and lows. He threw a school-record six touchdown passes against Tulsa and earned a cult following among students for his scraggly mustache.
The low points: three losses that have knocked Oklahoma out of the national championship picture.
