CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -North Carolina suspended cornerback Jermaine Strong and offensive tackle Andre Barbour on Monday for violating team and university rules.
“It’s disappointing to have to take this action,” coach Butch Davis said in a statement. “Both players had a tremendous opportunity to help this football team.”
Barbour, a sophomore, faces a Tuesday court appearance in Orange County on a misdemeanor charge of possession of up to one-half of an ounce of marijuana, according to the North Carolina Court System’s Web site.
No details were available on the reason for Strong’s suspension.
“They’re indefinitely suspended, and at some particular time in the future, we’ll revisit each of those individuals,” Davis said at his weekly news conference.
