CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -North Carolina suspended cornerback Jermaine Strong and offensive tackle Andre Barbour on Monday for violating team and university rules. ``It's disappointing to have to take this action,'' coach Butch Davis said in a statement. ``Both players had a tremendous opportunity to help this football team.'' Barbour, a sophomore, faces a Tuesday court appearance in Orange County on a misdemeanor charge of possession of up to one-half of an ounce of marijuana, according to the North Carolina Court System's Web site. No details were available on the reason for Strong's suspension. ``They're indefinitely suspended, and at some particular time in the future, we'll revisit each of those individuals,'' Davis said at his weekly news conference. |
