STORRS, Conn. (AP) – Monday marks the one-year anniversary of the stabbing death of UConn cornerback Jasper Howard.
Howard was killed during a fight between a group of football players and another group outside a dance at the student union.
Connecticut coach Randy Edsall says he still can’t believe it happened, especially on campus. His office is now filled with memorials of Howard, and he says he hopes to honor his memory by helping other players reach their full potential as people.
Receiver Kashif Moore, Howard’s former roommate, says he still thinks about that night and wishes he and Howard had just decided to stay home. Moore said Howard’s death changed him, made him grow up.
The man charged with Howard’s murder, John Lomax of Bloomfield, is due back in court Oct. 29.
