FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Darren McFadden became Arkansas’ career rushing leader Saturday night with a 13-yard run in the third quarter against No. 22 Auburn.
McFadden passed Ben Cowins’ mark of 3,570 yards, drawing a huge cheer from the home crowd. Lining up at quarterback, he took a shotgun snap and outran the defense to the left sideline before turning up the field.
McFadden was the Heisman Trophy runner-up last year, when he ran for 1,647 yards, also a school record. He needed only 32 yards against Auburn to break Cowins’ career mark, but it took him almost three quarters to do it.
Arkansas trailed 3-0 when McFadden broke the record.
