GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Florida receiver Chris Rainey has returned to the team after being dismissed last month following a charge of aggravated stalking.
Coach Urban Meyer said in a statement Tuesday that Rainey is practicing with the No. 22 Gators. Meyer said Rainey won’t play Saturday against Mississippi State, adding that “the timetable for his return will depend on his ability to follow the guidelines we have laid out for him.”
Rainey allegedly sent a woman he used to date a threatening text message.
Meyer expresses disappointment that Rainey violated a core value of the program and said he “continues to pay a price for his actions.”
Rainey agreed to a plea deal on a misdemeanor charge two weeks ago. Rainey apologized in a statement, saying he was “embarrassed” by his actions.
