AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -When Texas beat Oklahoma last season, the win vaulted the Longhorns to No. 1 and into the middle of the national title chase.
The Longhorns defense walked off the field knowing it had merely survived.
Nearly 400 yards passing and five touchdowns by Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford was “very poor” by Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp’s standards.
Heading into Saturday’s matchup with the Sooners, Texas defenders say they’ve come a long way from that long afternoon, rounding into a dominant unit that ranks first in the country against the run and fourth overall.
Texas’ last two opponents, Texas-El Paso and Colorado, gained just 180 total yards.
